Oh, Gabriel!

So, on the March 13 episode, Gabriel goes into the final round with his entire $25K, while his opponent Michael is down to only $6,200. All Gabriel had to do was immediately bid $6,200 on each of the two sabotages, and Michael would not have been able to outbid him. Gabriel, meanwhile, would still have had a healthy $12,600 remaining in his bank. And going immediately to the $6,200 bids would have cut bidding time and given Gabriel more time to make his dessert—perhaps even allowing him to put his bananas in the blast chiller so his layers would have remained separate.

I thought that was very short-sighted as well. What about that finger tip though? Man that was brutal.

reply

I'm glad the fingertip was block out. YEESH! But Amber seemed to take it in stride. The way she acted you'd think she just broke a nail. I wonder if they could re-attach it.

But I also wonder why these chefs that know they have more money left don't simply wager $100 more than the other chef has. They waste so much money.

They don't even need to wager more. All they have to bid is what the opponent has, as the opponent can't outbid them.

They do seem to overlook that, more often than not. I guess they don't go to many auctions.

Eric Greenspan totally took advantage of that when he beat Johnny Iuzzini in the finale of the first All-Stars tournament. Of course, Iuzzini was stupid enough to let his bank get down to $100.

He didn't exactly seem like the brightest thing ever. At the end of the episode he's crying because he won $300 and then yells out "I won Chopped!!" Poor mongoloid didn't even know what show he was on.

reply

That wasn't Gabriel. Gabriel lost. That was Michael, who won with a record low total for Cutthroat.

Because for at least the second auction he knew that as long as they were bidding the other guy couldn't get back into the pantry. He then lost track of the bidding, its happened before.
