Obvious judging flaw

Although Alton mentions that the judges have no idea what the contestants had to put up with and don't care. Sometimes ( like cooking with one hand behind your back) there's no way of knowing. But judges clearly know that no chef would choose cheese in a can for a mac and cheese challenge, so it was obvoiusly a sabatoge. At least unconsciously this must have an effect on the elimination. What do you all think?

reply

Goes both ways. Some chefs have made ingredient decisions to elevate their dish and the judges assume it was a sabotage.

reply

Or they forget to get a key ingredient from the pantry.

reply

The judges usually guess at the sabotages and will reward a chef they think found a good workaround. On the other hand, many chefs self-sabotage and get themselves eliminated with having a single handicap foisted upon them.
