Constant switching back and forth between languages...

is driving me NUTS.

I'm SO annoyed right now.

Either make the entire movie in English...sure maybe a few sentences here and there in French. Or make the entire movie in French with English subtitles.

I'm attempting to get through this with no subtitles and I really don't understand what the hell they were going for with this. If you're going to have a movie with 50/50 between two languages, why would you release a cut of it without subtitles? If you're French you're not going to understand half of it and if you're English you're not going to understand half of it.
WHAT . THE . HELL ? I am so confused as to why they did this.

I'm 35 minutes in and I couldn't take it anymore... I had to vent. I'm still going to finish the movie but I'm just so annoyed.

There shouldn't be ANY cut of this film without subtitles. The number of people in the world who understand both English and French is pretty limited.

The film was released so far only in the US in one version, and that version is in English and French (with English subtitles). The French release, when it comes out officially, will reverse this.

It was however illegally copied and leaked online without subtitles from the US version. So you are most likely watching an unauthorised pirated version of the film. It's not the way the filmmakers intended the movie to be seen - not simply because it is being stolen but because without the subtitles you are not experiencing the movie as it was made. (Imagine watching Malaysian action film THE RAID without English subtitles... yes, that would be annoying!)

I know it may be hard to fathom, but it's entirely a different movie without seeing it the way it was intended (yes, WITH subtitles). And it's inexpensive to support independent artists for their work ($7 rental, c'mon).

I reached out to the filmmakers about this and they confirmed all the above about subs etc- they are very easy to contact on social media. They said the blu ray will include deleted scenes and commentary with Barbara Crampton.

It was an alright film but could have been a lot better. The twists were interesting but the execution could have been handled with a lot more suspense and shock.
I was able to get past the lack of subtitles and go along for the ride.

I agree with the OP. I don't speak French, and the copy I watched only had subtitles for the English parts. So, when they were speaking French, I didn't understand a word they were saying. Pretty annoying but I still liked the movie.

why? do you have a problem with mentally challenged children and why you want him to like one? how is that even supposed to work? call up random chellenged kids, telling them that they are awesome? if yes, how is that a bad thing?

The language barrier between Jack and the French characters had a large impact on the plot, especially in the latter part of the movie. There was a reason that this was a dual-language film, and language barriers are very much a real-life thing that I've encountered several times in life working in customer service. I'd recommend rewatching the movie on Netflix, which I feel did a pretty good job overall with the subtitles.



THis frustrated me as well. I feel like I missed a significant portion of the film because I don't understand much French. It seems like the argument at the dinner table, some of the stuff the older guy said, and especially her diatribe at the end probably contained important information that explained what the hell was really going on here.

They should have just subtitled the whole thing if they were going to make it a French-english film.

There are subtitles on all versions except for some illegally ripped ones floating around on torrents and some unofficial streaming sites, which is a shame because it's not what the filmmakers intended and it's a very different experience to watching it the way it is supposed to be seen.

What a strange thing to get upset about. When people from different countries meet, this is how it goes. It didn't bother me in the slightest.
