ned rifle

It is interestign to see that the title for the 3rd part of the triology picks up a classical name from Hartley's movies, si there any further information coming out?

Maybe it'll focus on fay & henry's son, Ned ?

reply

well, yes, i assumed that, that's why I said it was the third part of the trilogy. I know that at least in 1 interview Hal said he intended to make a third movie which would focus on ned. It's just interesting that he neither adopted the fool(e) nor the grimm, but went to ned rifle, the name which he used for his music making and a character from soem of his movies (in simple men there is one ned rifle, the one who says "I want adventure, I want romance", and I believe that at least in soem of his shorts there also are other ned rifles, not quite certain)

I knew he wanted to to a 3rd one but i always assumed it was going to focus on simon.
So Ned rifle is definitely ned from the previous films, interesting. Maybe there's a story behind his family name. I'm pretty excited about this.

I remember ned rifle from simple men (best couple of minutes in the history of cinema ) but that's the only one i can think of (there's got to be more)
And Gemma Arterton, wow, i wasn't expecting her to be in a hal movie at all!

from a recent Hal Hartley interview:

"I think the third one could be really quite hard on him, without bashing him, but coming to the brutal truth about a character like that. I could definitely see the son saying, ‘You know, Mom’s in a Turkish prison.’ Or, think about it, if Fay is accused of treason by the United States—we’re the only country in the world that kills people for this. She could be executed. You can be executed. It could really come down hard on his father. This could definitely be a Luke Skywalker/Darth Vader type thing, like he’s going to kill the old man. But I could imagine him finally not doing it because he understands that this man is just a child. He’s a perpetual child. He doesn’t know what the implications are of everything that happens to him"

Interestingly, Ned Rifle is an alias Hartley used several times to sign the music of his films. Simple Men, Surviving Desire, Ambition and so on all have Hartley credited as Ned Rifle for the music.

Just saw that this on Parker's page. So glad to see Hal making another full length film. Finally!

The problem is that Faye Grim is probably my least favorite film of his, and the biggest missing piece was the lack of Henry/Thomas Jay Ryan.

Not so sure about a film focusing on his son... or anyone else for that matter.

Here's for the best

Sure is looking good!

Only person missing is Elina Löwensohn, but I guess she died. Can't believe it. Surely there will be a scene or two addressing her death scene in the 3rd sequel. A death scene! Gawd, poor Henry. And on top of all that, his son is aiming to kill him.

Dead!? Elina Löwensohn isn't dead, at least not according to IMdB...?

Also, this is the first time I've heard of this movie. And I'd contributed to the last Kickstarter..!
