Love Henry Fool. Did not care for Fay Grim.

Will I like Ned Rifle?

If it's not too late, YES!

Ned Rifle is the true sequel to Henry Fool. Fay Grim is probably my least favorite, most disappointing film from Hartley.

Ned Rifle is a lot like Henry Fool. Same type of humor, pacing. It's a real continuation.

And it has Henry, who was woefully missing from Fay Grim (until of course the end)

I must admit that I was so disappointed with Fay Grim and it put me off seeing Ned Rifle. Eventually I decided to rewatch Fay Grim, followed by Ned Rifle. I can see the good things in FG, now...it's really very funny, with some classic Hartley dialogue. It does get weighed down with exposition and genre...and this is why it felt so different to Henry Fool. I'm pleased to say that Ned Rifle is a fantastic Hartley film which recaptures some of the glory of HF, and generally feels much truer to that original.
All trilogies have a weaker film in them. In three colours, it was white. In Before, it was Sunset etc.

Just forget you ever saw it. It's better that way.

I'll join the others in saying: Absolutely! This is Hartley going back to his roots style-wise, and it truly feels like a follow up to Henry Fool, not just in character and plot, but in mood, style, pacing, humor and usage of characters.

Granted, I also thoroughly enjoyed Fay Grim, but it was different in almost every way. Sure, the humor was still present, but everything was turned around, plot twists coming from every corner, incredible excess in a way, hectic, fast paced, jumping in all directions. This largely worked for me, but coming in as a fan of Henry Fool and not neccesarily Hartley (or just enjoying early Hartley in general) I can see how so many got turned off.
