So who wrote the letters?

I had an inkling that it was the professor, and it very well could be. But in the end, I thought the professor went to see the lights blink on and off for just to know how it ends. My view is only that the professor read the letters after the girlfriend dropped them off. Who was the person in the car? To me, this was the more practical author of the letters. Somebody we haven't seen. This was very confusing. I feel more confused right now than Boaz felt during the length of the film! Anybody else have any theories?

I go with the professor as well. If he hadn't written the letters I think he'd be more forceful with the girlfriend that they weren't his, and he'd insist she take them with her when she left. The scene between him and the hustler indicates that sex was not what he wanted from another man. And his resignation soon after was left unexplained.

All of the other men in Boaz's everyday life were more of a reflection of his increased interest in being with another man: the runner, man in car, classmates etc.
