Um... Bring spare batteries?

Honestly, if your costume depends on something lighting up, why in the hell would you not have spare batteries. At first I thought the battery thing was just fake drama, but since Riki's bow never did light up in the end, I'm not sure if it was fake. I don't think she would be willing to not have it light up on purpose, just for drama. It still does seem fake though, Wonder Women got brand new batteries from that guy (who was actually smart enough to bring spares), and used them to light LED lights for a few minutes. After a few minutes, these batteries are supposedly almost drained? Bullsh!t.

Yes or why put it on
Do what the other girl did and put it on at the end
sometimes you forget things like that
or have them charge while your online

there's also the depending on how long they had to charge them up, and the fact they showed how she's always prepared earlier in the episode.

when I went to Wizard World Ohio, the cosplay competition lasted 2 hours because of the sheer volume of contestants. Not saying they had that many entrants but still.

reply

Even if it lasted 2 hours, she shouldn't have had it turned on until the last minute.

I think it was for drama and yes the light string for that Wonder Woman costume could have drained those 3 AA batteries in minutes. Those strings consume Amps of power. So many Amps that if you run long strings of them you have to inject more power into them along the length.

Rikki's bow used I think EL wire which can also be a drain on small packs.

The odd thing about needing to "Charge the batteries" is that did she bring a AA battery charger in linw with her but not extra batteries?

Yeah, I noticed that, too. Seemed very fishy. Who uses rechargeable batteries for a competition instead of a fresh pack right before you go on stage?

They should bring an extra set of fresh batteries that should be dedicated strictly for the stage appearance that they change out in line with only 1 or 2 contestants left before their turn.

Part of the problem was that they probably used up the batteries during the day taking pictures on the convention floor and in the hotel lobby posing for fans and photo shoots. If they want to light their gadgets for fans and photos they should have batteries for that purpose and another set just for the stage.

2. Why didn't you bring extra batteries?
The batteries used were $19 each and I needed 4. Since I didn't have the bow on that much I figured they would last. Considering this was my first time I had to do electronics and because of the tight crafting schedule I didn't have the time to work out the kinks. I had started the day with them fully charged, I had my bow lit sparingly, but I did have production obligations (like turnarounds, heroes shots, etc) that I lit it up for. I had brought my charger with me back stage, but the amount of extra time I had, was not enough to get the batteries to a point to light of being able to light the bow.

3. Why didn't you just use MORE AA batteries?
I did not use standard batteries as well as needing to conceal the battery back in the limited space of my gauntlet. My fore arm is only 5” not like I can stick more than 4 batteries and the case in that amount of space. Each battery I used I believe is = to 2-4 AA batteries

reply

Well I guess that explains it. Part inexperience with electronics and part other obligations. She already has one set of the rechargeable batteries so she should be set in the future as soon as she can afford $80 for one more set that can be used exclusively for her stage presentation.

I didn't say she was inexperienced in general, I said she was inexperienced with electronics. Riki admitted this herself and said this was the first time working with electronics like that.

OMG that's exactly what I yelled at the screen! I couldn't decide which was worse, the Mannequin costume where he used actual mannequin parts (couldn't he have made it out of foam and not be a sweaty mess? I hate that kid with a passion and I find him annoying as *beep*) or the TRON costume where she didn't bring spare batteries.
