shareDevil's Pocket is a neighborhood in South Philly where the novel was set, with a slight name change. Wherever this was filmed looked appropriately gritty for the time & place, but it sure didn't look like Philadelphia. South Philly, in particular, is not that hilly.

Not only did it look nothing like South Philly (for people who don't know...South Philly is mostly flat and filled almost entirely with brick row homes), but nobody in the movie sounded like they were from Philly either.
shareExactly ! Another movie that is supposed to take place in South Philly, but clearly doesn't is "10th & Wolf". It's filmed in Pittsburgh and it's easy to tell it's not Philly. It's a shame b/c the movie had big name actors and had some potential, but it came out lame.

shareThank you for the Pulaski Skyway reference. I grew up in that part of NJ, haven't been back in many years, and I thought but wasn't sure that it the Pulaski. Another shot in the same scene I thought showed a long raised section of the Jersey Turnpike between Newark and Jersey City.
