This is Flatliners meets Pet Sematary

Flatliners involved medical students bringing each other back to life and bringing some bad karma back with them. Pet Sematary had those who were brought back to life become evil killers. This movie has medical students bringing one of their own back to life who brings evil back with her and she becomes a killer. Wouldn't run out to see it unless you like the thrill and like to be scared in a movie theater and a big screen (teenagers?).

I was thinking the same thing about Flatliners.

Your subject line is exactly what I just said in my head, right before I saw this post. I'm still intrigued by the storyline, but probably won't see it in the theater.

Flatliners was a WAY better movie. I love how even though there were some creepy or scary moments in it instead of being strictly horror it was a paranormal thriller with good morality in the theme. They all atoned for their sins, redeemed themselves in various ways and became better people. To me that is way more interesting than this generic horror crap.

I wish instead they would do a remake of flatliners and have a different group of med students with different sins they have to "atone" for.

That'd be good to watch, as well! I love movies like this!

I came up with ideas for "sins" that the new group of flatliners could have to "atone" for.

1. One of them was 21 years old and purchased beer for a party that had minors at it and was thus responsible for a drunk driving crash that killed several people and somehow either avoided prosecution or got the metaphorical "slap on the hand". He was NOT driving but was guilty of providing the alcohol and the driver was under 21.

2. One of them (female) was part of a group of "mean girls" who tormented a shy socially awkward girl in highschool to the point where their victim attempted suicide and survived only to end up in a mental hospital. She must make amends (sort of a more extreme version of what Kevin Bacon had to deal with). I want a happy ending where the "nerd girl" is now a beautiful young woman happily married and forgives her tormentor and is shown giving the woman a big hug after the heartfelt apology.

3. One of them when he was 13 years old participated in the gang rape of a mentally retarded girl and most of the rapists were tried as adults and put on a "megan's law" registry but in his state one must be 14 years old to be tried as an adult at the time of a crime except for murder and because he was only 13 his minor record was cleared giving him a fresh start on his 18th birthday. I do not know how one would "atone" for this one that is tough.

4. The "julia roberts" of the group, the most morally pure one who never did anything really horrible loved her grandmother but as she grew up she became very ambitious with trying to do well academically and become a doctor and as the years went by she saw less and less of her granny then when her grandmother passed away she felt incredible guilt and her way of atoning is doing volunteer work at a nursing home being nice to the elderly people there, that would be a sweet counterbalance to the other more horrible sins listed above.

I also thought it could be an actual sequel instead of a remake. My idea is the now very middle aged Doctor (forgot the character's name but Keifer Southerland) is also a professor at a medical college and he discovers that some of his students are trying the same experiment he and his young colleagues tried 30 or so years earlier. In theory his students would be facing expulsion, permanent loss of any license to practice medicine and even criminal charges BUT remembering his and his friend's actions in the past he realizes that he cannot enforce any laws or rules against them without himself being a total hypocrite, especially since he and none of the others ever faced any sanctions for their actions from the events of the original story. So he gives them all an ominous "warning" about the dangers of bringing back their sins which of course just arouses their curiosity more.

This... is what I could call a good story for a sequel or remake for Flatliners (not all remakes are a copy/paste from source)... why Hollywood is not founding this? Even a prequel in old-times medicine-team could work. The movie is not about the "how" but the consequences, so the listed "sins" are way better that the whole Lazarus effect plot... trying hard to became a new idea (borrowing from here and there) finished without closing the deal. Anyway, I give to the movie a "Nice effort" price, everybody has seen worst tries.

Doesn't have to be a remake, can just be a sequel. Maybe One of the original cast can even make an appearance.

Smells like it...all the way.

Flat liners is. a Joel Schumacher movie which is better than this. The guy that ruined Batman can make a better movie of this subject than this.

Seriously, can anybody say this movie is ian improvement over Pet Sematary or Flatliners?!!

Do yourself a favor and rewatch either one instead...

bobgio99: This movie has medical students

No, no it does not have medical students. Which movie do you think you saw?

A slight nuance...medical "researchers" ....medical "students"...same thing. OK lets shut you up right now "Medical people". OK?! Hall monitor!

add Lucy (2014) aswell and you have Lazasur Effect.

reply

I don't see the Lucy connection...Lucy was created by a drug which made her extra-human (i.e. she evolved into a different existential form of herself).
Please explain...
