His Mom's fault

The boy's 18 and never had a birth certificate, and never asked his mother about it? He was applying to colleges and his mom never mentioned it?

And his mom is Mexican, but he's never been there. Surely, he would have asked about meeting his grandparents in Mexico at some point in his life?

The movie makes out the US government is the problem. The real problem and blame is his mother. She didn't even teach him Spanish.

It sounds like propaganda in favor of illegal aliens, but I'd need more information without supporting the film. Anyone care to offer any?

It's based on a true story.
Upon Floras return to Missori she discovered she was pregnant with the rapists son, eventually after giving birth immigration tossed the infant across the border for illegally being conceived in a foreign country, new immigration laws you know... The infant grew up and to this day operates a narco trafficking operation. Alex never made it back to the U.S., he had over 700 arrest records for illegally trying to cross the border which affected his case to return to his home. Eventually he made it to Juarez, barely making it to his aunts door, he was shot by cartels because of some language misunderstanding, he didn't know Spanish.

The problem isn't because he didn't know Spanish, the problem is he was a criminal for being accessory of possession of narcotics which even though wasn't his, and that he didn't know about it; he still deserved to go to prison. The law is the law. He should of been punished and sentenced for a long time.

Doubt it would cost that much for her to pay for his living expenses so he could learn Spanish and go to a Mexican college, but of course a free ride from the US taxpayer is the only option
