Accent on point

Finally an actress who gets an Australian accent right. I'll watch this film just on that alone.

Yes, she is a great actress.

check out Holy Smoke, with Harvey Keitel and Kate Winslet....she nails the aussie accent there too. Plus the Angels get to sing their timeless classic 

Incredible accent. Flawless.

reply

Yeah true the worst Australian accent I heard was on the great escape.

To save me watching this again [it was not on at christmas] can you enlighten as to the aussie character represented in this mish mash assembled to appease the paymasters.

Read the review which seems to be the main one on the main page.

Not yet seen and I did not see Merle Streep as an aussie other than as Linda in a Cry in the dark going back some time. My search for the reviewers mention of Evil Angels in fact brought me to it as a title change for perhaps the US audience. I cannot remember the quality of that work.

Streep normally works very hard to reproduce what might be the perfect way of speaking in a non american role. But if this accent was important were there no other Aussie/ Antipodeans about of any note. But it is two female heavyweights at work.
For Kate though it might be little unfair. In and around London some of the accents here can sound very close to the Australian twangs and even on the island continent there are variations that they might hear but we may not.

Michael Caine does a pretty good Aussie imitation accent in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" ............. and Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan do a pretty good Michael Caine on "The Trip".
