Visually, this film is a treat, but... (spoilers ahead)

Visually, this film is a treat, but I can't help feeling the whole thing is a bit out of whack.

What did we see? A western revenge movie, with a bit of drama and love interest thrown in and topped with some weird vaudeville. Granted, visually it is a treat, there's no denying, but it was seriously unbalanced, with on the one hand serious themes like drowning in sorghum, rape, murder, child (and adult!) abuse and revenge, and on the other hand the zealous pharmacist who can't walk straight and ends up drowned in a pond, the cross dressing police officer, and some of the caricature characters that inhabit this dreadful village.

Al in all it was wel worth my time, don't get me wrong, and I've always been a great fan of Hugo Weaving, since I first saw him in Bangkok Hilton, but this film is unbalanced, can't be helped.

Most Australian films are like this - pretty much dark comedies with plenty of wacky characters.
