You can shower with one, but not fully immerse it in water for any extended amount of time. Most of the ankle bracelets are water resistant vs water proof, but that isn't the real problem - they operate on radio waves, and being submerged can compromise their ability to communicate. If the radio signal is interrupted, it's considered tampering, and if it shorts out, you can be arrested, plus be liable for the cost of replacement. No police department that I know of gives you carte blanche to swim, and that's even if you're allowed that far out into your yard.
