Am I the only one?

Who actually enjoyed this movie? In fact I bloody loved it. The only complaint I have is Shailene Woodley. Not because of her acting because she is brilliant but who the hell had the bright idea of giving her character short hair? It just doesn't suit her at all. She is beautiful with long hair though.

With this series, I actually like the movies better than the books. And that NEVER happens with me.
The short hair was for 2 reasons. She did cut her hair in the book, just not quite as short. And Shailene Woodlly had just finished shooting The Fault In Our Stars, where her character had cancer. She already had the short cut from there.

I enjoyed the movie. It wasn't perfect, but I found it entertaining.

Exactly the same! I loved the movie and Shailene but just not the hair

You can't be serious. The books were fairly decent. I actually read them AFTER seeing the first film (Divergent) because I really enjoyed it and wanted to see more of this world.

But, this film, Insurgent, is just absolute dreck. They pretty much leave out 80% of the plot from the books, and the actors, who I like, give performances and extra on a soap opera would cringe at.

Just a bad bad film. I hear that "Allegiant" will be broken up into 2 films. (Oy, Hollywood) I can only cross my fingers that they somehow save this film series.

Divergent: B-
Insurgent: F no... F- no, wait... Can I give it a "Z"?

I'm guessing you gave it plenty of Z's, til someone nudged you in the ribs and woke you up.

If it's tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

reply

Divergent I gave a 7/10
Insurgent was a 4 or 5 (so I guess 4.5) - just not as well made, or lovingly handled as the first one. Not sure if that is down to the director, or the screenwriters.

I enjoyed the film as well.

I can hardly wait for the sequel.. the one where Tris does her laundry... I think it's called "Detergent".

I loved the movie. I thought it was better than Divergent which had more exposition. This one went straight to the good stuff. I don't understand the on IMDB. I think some are simply upset that it didn't follow the book. I'm one of those that don't care. The movie is based on the book. It doesn't have to be an exact replication of the book! It's similar to The Hunger Games where people were upset that they changed the color of cat. Seriously? I could care less. The changes they made for the movie worked in the movie and in many ways, made it more exciting. As for others who don't like it, I think they are just haters. They must like some "rival" movie. Again, I don't get into that stupidity. It's a quality movie and works on many levels. If other people don't like it, so be it. I do.

reply

The changes annoyed me - not because they were changes, but because each and every one of them was stupid. The box, the faction/divergence detector, the new motivations and decisions, the conflict resolutions - not a hint of logic to be found in any of it. It's like the writers just threw whatever onto a piece of paper without taking two seconds to consider whether any of it even made sense. Or even care if it did. I felt my intelligence insulted at every turn, like they put the story together on the assumption that the audience was too stupid to be bothered by or even notice how nonsensical everything was.

I didn't particularly care for this movie because the script was pedestrian at best, but mostly just laughable; 95% of the plot, most of which happened to be invented for the movie, was illogical and poorly thought out, which made it next to impossible to take anything anyone was doing seriously; most of the action, primarily in the effects-heavy parts, was forced and redundant; and worst of all, the whole thing was strangely boring and anticlimactic to the point of the whole thing feeling completely pointless. The filmmakers did not do a good job making this movie. It was not a particularly good adaptation, but the bigger problem is that it was just not a good movie altogether. You can botch the adaptation aspect (i.e., the movie has literally nothing in common with the source material) but still turn out a movie that's pretty good in its own right. This was not, in both my subjective and objective opinion. But if others enjoyed it, then that's fine. I'm not them. It's not really up to me to say what people should or should not think about things.

I think it's very narrow-minded and ignorant to accuse everyone who doesn't like something you happened to like of just being a "hater." You know, it is entirely possible for people to not like stuff for actual reasons. My reasoning for not liking this movie is based on my being a learned individual with critical thinking skills. Are there actual haters out there, those who say they hate the movie just for the sake of saying so? Who say they hated it for frivolous and even stupid reasons? Absolutely. But to issue a blanket statement that everyone must be hater if they say they don't like it? That's just immaturity on you.

I laughed out loud at this. I must be weird, because no one else responded.

Well played.

Thanks for the laugh!

How about the film after that, where Four vomits? "Regurent."

I intend to live forever.
So far, so good.

I loved both Divergent and Insurgent. I'm anxiously awaiting the next one. And I LOVE SW's short hair!!
Gotta say that after the first few hater-y posts here, I've had that song stuck in my head..."...and the haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate." Lol I think I'll just shake it off and put the great music from Divergent on...LOUD...while I cook supper. Lol
