Shockingly good: my video review of Equestria Girls

Title says it all. I was very surprised with this movie, in a good way.

it was horrible. the whole thing is dumbed down for little girls and pushed like toy commercial the story was no where near as good as the normal show's writing and it was like it was fanfic turned into a movie.

it had 2 good songs and a couple of funny jokes that's it... the whole story in the high school setting was just plain lazy and cliche.

I'm very disappointed in the DHX staff and embarrassed that they even put this in the theaters instead of straight to video.

Hasbro is really ruining the entire pony show created by Lauren Faust, which is my guess why she left the show after hearing they were starting to ruin it.

I can foresee with movies like this that there won't be a season 5 of MLP it will end with 4.

No season 5? I wouldn't bet on it. Unless there is a massive exodus from the brony community over the movie (there hasn't been) or some sort of noticeable dip in television ratings or DVD/digital sales (there won't be), Hasbro has no reason to end the show.

As for Lauren Faust's departure, most of what she has said on the subject basically amounts to "it burned me out and I couldn't handle all of it anymore". Perhaps something else has been left unsaid and there's more to the story than that. But given the glowingly positive things she said about the creative team that took over for her, again, I wouldn't bet on it.

Agreed, it wasnt as horrible as I thought it'd be. Props to the folks behind the movie, it actually worked quite well IMO.

For the most part I did enjoy this film, but I do have a few issues with it:

1.Why were the human versions of Apple Bloom, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle at the high school? They should've still been in elementary school!

2.It bothered me how the human versions of Twilight's friends all had the same names as their pony counterparts. What parents in our world give their kids names like Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash? I wish they'd been given different names. People I've talked to about this have said that it's probably so kids can keep track of who's the alternate version of who, but I think that, given the way each character looks so much like her pony version, has the exact same voice and personality (human Fluttershy is extremely meek and timid and loves animals, human Pinkie Pie is a really silly party girl, ect) no one who's a fan of the show, even young children, would have a problem keeping track of who's who, even if you gave them different names like Felicity and Penelope.

Other than that, I thought this was a great film and something that anyone who's a fan of the series should at least give a chance.

I also really liked how Twilight dealt with the defeated Shimmer and how it was alluded to that Shimmer was once a potential princess candidate like Twilight.
Principal Celestia also basically straight out said she had known what was going on the whole time, so I assume the other Celestia did too. It's not like she hasn't been known to test Twilight, but this means that this entire thing was just to fix the problem Shimmer presented- a problem Celestia created. Is Twilight going to spend her whole life fixing Celestia's errors?
Well, maybe I'm just looking for stuff that isn't there. But I agree, it wasn't a bad flick. (It wasn't great either...but I think it still held up the show's message pretty well.
