I just don't understand

Why did Grandpa take Tucker away from his grandson after his grandson told the truth. What lesson does that teach the son? That when you are mad at a child, try to hurt them as much as possible? And what "should" the kid have done? Grandpa says nothing about that. Piss poor child raising if you ask me.
