Delightfully HONEST!

At least this was filmed in the Bahamas! Those of us who are familiar with the sand, sea, skies, and vegetation of the Bahamas LOVE to see it!

The sand is so white and the water is so blue; the casuarina trees are so delicate; always blowing! The casuarinas grow like weeds, so we cut them down to use as Christmas trees. (A favorite way of decorating them is with (white) sand dollars tied with red satin ribbons.)

That STUPID slug 2014 film Agatha Christie's "Caribbean Mystery" was filmed in CAPETOWN SOUTH AFRICA!!!! It didn't look anything like any of the Caribbean islands; anywhere in the Caribbean, from Florida to South America, from the Gulf to the Atlantic! Those who didn't know where it was filmed would THINK those ugly beaches, and nasty rocks, and angry skies looked like the Caribbean and would never want to go; it was dismal!

Compare it to the GREAT same film made in 1989 with Joan Hickson that was honestly filmed in Barbardos. I can't believe it is that much cheaper to go to South Africa; not when you consider the cost of rooms and meals!

When the destination is the Bahamas NOTHING else will do! By the same token, Montenegro is Montenegro! Nepal is Nepal. Paris is Paris. If you can't go "there" then change the story location to where you can go; nothing is as disconcerting as knowing the setting is all wrong!

I did not realize that about Caribbean Mystery. Thanks for the tip. The scenery was beautiful in Turks and Caicos.

I also appreciated that the American characters sounded like Americans unlike the 'Americans' in other BBC shows like Spooks. It really makes a difference - I didn't get pulled out of the story wondering what sort of accent they were trying to pull off.

Quite a rant about the authenticity of filming in the location ... except they DIDN'T.

By your own admission, it was filmed in the Bahamas. The story was set on one of the islands of the Turks and Caicos (hint: it's the title of the show). These are, it may surprise you to hear, two different places. They're in the same sea, but 500 miles apart! I have no doubt that the vegetation is somewhat different.
