Catch the criminal scam? - Spoiler

Did anybody else catch the homage to "Sea of Love" when the crew staged the fake football "meet the team" scam to round up criminals?

That was from SOL, when a copper played by Al Pacino staged a "Meet the Yankees" scam in order to get wanted criminals in the same room by invitation so they could be arrested.

I always loved that scene though, because of the scene in which Al's character was so touched by the excitement of a little son his wanted dad had brought with him that Al arranged for them to miss the event. He just couldn't break the adorable kid's heart. He'd rather have had him disappointed he missed seeing the Yankees than see his dad be arrested in front of him.

Turned the rubbish off after that scene. Complete rip off. Isn't there any originality left at the BBC.

The father of the excited kid in Sea Of Love I believe was played by Samuel L. Jackson in one of his first credited speaking roles.

Yes!

Samuel L. Jackson had so many one-off little one-liners before he got more work. Was watching an old film the other day in which he was a street guy doing a card trick scam for passersby, and am not sure he even had more than a one-word line.

Glad he stuck in there, though, until he got better roles.

It is true about some of the writing coming out of the BBC and ITV these days. I think the young writers consider something "original" now as long as it has not appeared in a film for 20 years, when were 5. haha

And though Channel4 seems to gone over to the dark side of reality programming to earn their bread and butter, they do the occasional higher quality drama.

But when you see on their OnDemand feature the dramas they were going 15-20 years ago, they were as good as anything BBC was doing.

But now? Gah.
