Any US viewers turned off of this show because of similarity to Leverage

Almost turned it off when they said Leverage mid way through.

Still a good show but god how I hate the format (cast, stories, production values of earlier seasons) of the US version.

Were you able to watch the UK version in the US?

It's less Leverage than a reboot (in a good way) of "Hustle."

The flashbacks at the end letting the audience in on the various set-ups and misdirections that had been going on without being revealed until the end were pure "Hustle." Same format.

They had me at....Tony Jordan. Then they cinched it with Gina McKee as the wonderfully mysterious, ironic and smart-alecky "M" character. Fab.

It's "Hustle" from the other side. Con-artists essentially, who have access to all things the good guys have at their disposal and are pseudo cops. But, well, "it's a grey area." LOL!

Warren Brown is great as the clever and charismatic leader of the crew. And there is just the right touch of light sexual tension between Shelley Conn's character and Quinn. It's there but it's subtle and doesn't get in the way. So it's a bit sexy.

That long scene with Keith Allen's Nicholas in his office between Quinn and Nick was an instant classic. "Am I annoying????"

I came on here to post that I liked this show more when it was called Leverage.

Guess it's a bit circular.

I always found "Leverage" to be the US version of "Hustle" which came first. The old Robin Hood story....a crew steals but only from the bad guys.

And now the UK does the hat trick with "By Any Means" changing the protagonists being on the side of the coppers.

Also, Tony Jordan is the DNA link between "Hustle" and BAM, I suppose.

Guess clever ideas never lose their appeal.

I do still really like the show.

It's nothing really like Leverage aside from a similar concept. Leverage has better writers. The script and dialogue struck me as rather vacuous. But I've only seen the first episode.. maybe it gets better. I hope so!

Not that I watch Leverage a lot.. I've only seen a few episodes but consider it a good show for what it is.

reply

Seems that it has gotten better.

reply

Indeed it has! Yay! Second episode was quite good really. Much better than the first.

They mentioned Leverage very much as an in-joke. As leverage was a rip off of Hustle and this show is from some of the creators of that series.

Its that man again!!

I'm a US viewer that watched Leverage for it's entire run, and I like both shows. Leverage started off great, but eventually the writing went downhill. The only reason to stay was for it's characters whom I grew attached to. This show has a way to go, but it does feature some of my favorite British actors and the fact that they are cops is a good twist on the genre. I'm liking it so far.

I didn't realize you could only support one...

After watching all the episodes, I've come to the conclusion that it's much better than Leverage. Not sure why the first episode was so messed up, but all the others were good and it kept getting better.

The last episode I almost cried, seeing Charlie like that. I hope there's a second season and Charlie better be ok!!!!

Brits trying to be American = bad show (waste of a good cast however).
