The end *spoilers* and their pathetic attempt at a twist?

My brain already erased the exact quote because the movie was so awful but it was like...

"the daddy will find us" then it shows the little rabbit dude in the ambulance... and OH wow he's an old guy instead of a kid which the audience was supposed to assume.

I don't understand why this was supposed to be a "twist" or some "reveal" when it was never a question in the first place, it was never actually a story element that mattered so why would the audience care?
