Can anyone recommend some little-known or underrated horror gems to me?

I think I've hit a wall in terms of finding new horror flicks to watch that are worth checking out. I am not looking for grade Z garbage or troma films or anything like that (which some I do enjoy but mostly not). All Hallows' Eve has probably got to be the "lowest grade" film I've ever watched and still thought was entertaining for what it was.

I've recently in the past 1-2 years have turned my attention to indie flicks and straight to VOD for some really underrated movies that should have either gotten a lot more attention or are like movies such as this one that some people either love or hate.

Some upcoming flicks I'm looking forward to are The Sacrament and that new werewolf movie, Late Phases. Just saw Stake Land recently and thought that it was at least something different and entertaining.

Just to give anyone my taste - I'm more into the 60s-80s classics, enjoy atmosphere and character over gore, and have really enjoyed some more recent efforts.

Recent films I've watched are
All of Ti West's work
Let the Right One In
Let Me In
You're Next
VHS 1 & 2
All Hallows Eve
Kiss of the Damned
Sinister
The Conjuring

Am considering watching Here Comes the Devil and the new Carrie. I'm not huge on remakes but anyways, although I think Halloween 07' My Bloody Valentine, Friday the 13th and Fright Night weren't fantastic, but still enjoyable.

If I see something on Amazon Instant I've never heard of I'll give it a shot. Just saw the Collector for the first time and thought it was a solid movie and would recommend that one - slightly more gory along with You're Next but if I think the entertainment and character value is there it is still worthwhile.

I may or may not have watched something you recommend - if it is something from the 1980s, I've probably watched it. Anything within the last 5-10 years would be great.

Thanks for your time.

I love watching independent horror films! I'm always searching around, trying to find new ones to check out. I actually haven't even seen "All Hallows' Eve" yet, but I came to this board to read about it because I thought it looked scary.

Here are some recommendations:
-Pontypool (2008)
-Absentia (2011)
-Entrance (2012 - very low-budget with slow-moving plot, but watch it 'til the end just to see what happens...)
-Jug Face (2013)
-Haunter (2013)
-We Are What We Are (2013 - US remake of a 2010 Mexican film)
-13 Sins (2014 - US remake of a 2006 Thai film)
-Last Kind Words (2012)
-Stoker (2013)
-Berberian Sound Studio (2012)
-May (2002)
-The Loved Ones (2009)
-Below Zero (2011)
-Martin (1976)
-Deathdream (Dead of Night) (1972)
-Beauty and the Beast (Panna a netvor) [1978 - Czech, atmospheric fairy tale horror)

If you like serial killer flicks (more "dark drama" than "horror"):
-Deranged (1974)
-The Driller Killer (1979)
-Angst (1983 - Austrian, banned worldwide so it's kind of hard to find. It's disturbing, but really fascinating)
-Dahmer (2002)
-Tony (2009)
-Maniac (2012)

If you like "found footage" films:
-Devil's Pass (2013)
-The Bay (2012)
-The Den (2013)
-Grave Encounters (2011)
-Trollhunter (2010 - Norwegian)

If you like scary/dark movies where people get stranded/stuck somewhere:
-Open Water (2003)
-Open Water 2 (2006)
-Thirst (2010)
-Scenic Route (2013)
-Frozen (2010)

Now, these definitely aren't all underrated gems, but I think they're all at least entertaining or have something interesting/unique about them.

Just watched GirlHouse over the weekend. It was an enjoyable slasher film.

I recommend The Cube, the sequels sucked imo, but the original is in my book pretty great for being a small budget flick.

Header is something different, and all of the Human Centipede movies are cool... surprised no one has mentioned them. There are tons more, but I have a hard time remembering titles, sorry.
