The mime's key working took two stars off my rating

Oh Manglehorn. I quite enjoyed you right up until the end, when the mime's non-existent key worked and open the locked van door.

Then, Manglehorn, you dropped from seven stars to five. No, Manglehorn, that's a bad Manglehorn.

Cinq étoiles pour vous, as they say in Paris, France.

I also feel it was a nod to the allusions that were made in the film about him being 'mystical' in some way -- as a coach, as a father etc.

And how he somehow got the nail out of the bull's hoof at the rodeo - many viewers may have missed that story since it was narrated by the nanny during some visual crossfades.

I was about to sympathize with the OP before I saw your post and recalled the rodeo story.

I think it worked just fine. If there had been no other odd or surreal moments in the film then I might agree - but there was a cathartic symbolism to it.

The mime helping him out illustrated the two worlds they lived in. It's worth capturing Al Pacino and Holly Hunter's interview for the film. So it illustrated how the different lives we live can help each other out, even the ones that people don't see. So the lives that others live, that we don't see, if we find them by communicating with people, can unlock the difficulties locked in our lives.

You have all convinced me with your thoughtful and philosophical diatribes on matters Manglehorn.

I relent! I'm giving back the two stars. Seven stars! Seven stars for Manglehorn! He's back on top!

Heres dine to stjerner tilbake, din jævla fitte, as they say in Oslo, Norway.

Yeah, that was really stupid and out of character for the whole rest of the movie ... and kind of said there was no character in the whole rest of the movie.

Although the one nice thing about this movie was Holly Hunter ... she is always fun to watch.
