The gun must just be for show, right?!

... because if you ever fired that thing on somebody that wasn't willing to let you into their house, you'd be screwed? (I don't know anything about American law... )

Thing is, if the baliff knows it's a bluff, then the tenant usually would, too... So, what's the point?

No its for self defense. Like when you try and get in and they pull a gun on you or start beating you with a bat or something and you can't get away. You wouldnt shoot someone just because they won't let you in to the house. America is *beep* up but i don't think it's that bad.

OK. It's just he mentioned it in conjunction with a Rottweiler story, and I doubt the law would look kindly on him shooting a dog either... so maybe the writing should have been more honest, and outright said that he occasionally gets threats on his life.

I hear you....but he's legally allowed to be there..... and a person prompting their dog to attack you is technically assault with a deadly weapon..... and you can not easily outrun a dog...... If a vicious dog was chasing me and i had a gun...... i'd shoot it too.... most likely the police would look at it as self defense.

reply

I'm not sure a few bites on the leg (what he showed us) would warrant shooting a dog in self-defense - especially as this presumably happened BEFORE he carried the weapon... If the animal had him by the throat, then yeah, but...

Anyway, we can agree to differ. Thanks for responding. 

In the US if a dog attacks you (even a little bit), you can shoot it. Heck, even if it was just barking at you and you felt threatened, you could unless you were trespassing.

He also talks about looking over his shoulder, people harassing him.

The gun was definitely for self-defense, not to strong arm his way into houses. THAT would be illegal.

Good to know. Thanks for the info!

Have you watched the movie? It was not their house, they were rtespassing there, it was bank's house and they were giving them courtesy to grab few things, they were already trespassing since judge signws documents to bank. Technically he was representing owner and the former owners were trespassing so it's his right to protect the property from further damage.

The best - Fight Club, American Beauty & Falling Down.

Yes, I did watch the movie. Did you not read the conversation I had with the two more civil posters in this thread? My question was never about the right of the agents to be there - it was about what constitutes intimidation, or self defense... The other two users managed to be most enlightening, in this regard.
