It would've been better if Yip Man showed up for the first scheduled fight then everyone would've witnessed it. But for the actual fight at the end no one witnessed Yip Man defeat Cheung Tin-chi, except the two young boys.
I thought that too but it's left to the viewer to imagine what happened next. Of course, Cheung Tin-Chi admitted defeat and he destroyed his plaque, so we can tell the truth isn't going to be stretched when word gets out. Cheung doesn't seem like the guy to be a sore loser, but like everyone, had to start out rough and chalk his loss as an experience.

It wasn't a glory-fight, it was a fight for personal honour.
