Not sure if the first half was directed by someone else. I thought maybe Donnie was getting too old. However from the elevator fight scene on the choreography was Ip Man quality. Mike Tyson was really surprisingly good too, he actually has a great shot as a career in mindless fight films. I am glad since I grew up as a kid watching Mike Tyson knock out everyone.
shareI couldn't agree more. The over-the-top villains and acting nearly ruined the movie. In particular, I'm thinking of the petty thug who attacked and then burned down the school.
The first two Ip Man movies, and the last half of this one, are notable for being martial arts films of quality. But the first half of Ip Man 3 felt like a cheap, run-of-the-mill wuxia films.
The second half was very touching and proved enough to redeem the movie, at least in my eyes. Yet I can't help but be disappointed by the early half.
