The characters are flat, have less personality than a cardboard box

Anyone else find the characters have absolutely no personality at all? It was like watching characters just straight out read off a script the entire hour.

I HATED Lisa Marcos in The Listener because of her on-all-the-time constipated face. When I heard she was cast, I knew this would be a crap show.

And to think this show has a bigger budget than Flashpoint? Well CTV, you just wasted your money.

Glad Im not the only one who thinks so.

And considering CTV hasn't released a PR statement saying "OMG There were blah-blah million viewers for the premiere." I'm going to assume the premiere was a dud.

Another bad sign is it seems CTV will be showing the episodes out of order.

reply

How do you know they are out of order in the running of the episodes?

reply

The initial IMDB episode list was: listed as

Drugs
Girls
Lawyers
Guns
Money
Fights
Cars
Poison
Cops
Secrets
Untouchables
Hitmen
Revenge

The current episode order is:

Drugs
Girls
Money
Lawyers
Guns
Fights
Cars
Poison
Cops
Secrets
Untouchables
Hitmen
Revenge

But with their crime-of-the-week format the producers figures nobody would notice.

A) iMDB info often comes from 'the people' is often wrong until someone else corrects it. Just spotted a mistake in Glee's episode lineup yesterday.

B) Given the complete lack of character development and any kind of story arc I think these episodes could be played in any without anyone being the wiser. Honestly nothing comes to mind other than what's his name and his ex-wife I think spans two episode so far. And that could probably be played in reverse order.

Here's the web address where you can watch the show:

http://watch.ctv.ca

Because you don't live in Canada, you have to install a software to circumvent the page's geoblocking mechanism. The best one is Hola. You can download it here:

Hope it helps!

Just download it off of any torrent tracker.

The show is boring. You're right about the personality, nobody stands out. I've watched the 2nd episode, and I was contemplating shutting it off several times during the play.

I wonder if Chandra West is as big a bitch in real life as she is in this show. I get the feeling she is.

This is a show I was cautiously looking forward to (though I've never enjoyed Vincent Walsh as an actor), but I have to agree so far it's been dull and forgettable. The writing and characters are flat.

An actor in this cast I've always rather liked is Adam Butcher, who has given some memorable performances dating from "Saint Ralph." But this character is not well-drawn. I don't for a minute believe that he's supposed to be from a tough inner city housing project, for example.

So far "Played" is inferior to shows like "Flashpoint" and "Rookie Blue" in ever way. I wish I could say otherwise.

I know first seasons are usually a bit iffy on character development, but on a scale of one to ten, I'd give character development a 3 so far. They've given snippets that, of course, fit conveniently with whatever "play" they're doing, but I'd like to see more back story on all of them.
