Ending

Can someone explain the ending?

Basically Holly realizes that Nina shows up because of her own insecurities. She needs to face them, and being with Rob won't help.

So basically all these while whenever they have sex its because of Holly's insecurities and not because of Rob? Interesting

reply

I don't think it was her insecurities. For me it was more her dark thoughts and obsession with death. I think she liked Rob so much because of Nina's death and being with a person that experienced such loss. To remind you it was her idea to have sex on Nina's grave. The tattoo didn't help either.
I liked the ending, it left Holly in very interesting moment with completely unclear future and a lot of speculations for the imagination.

Tat is one way to look at it

Yes I think it's more likely to do with dark thoughts and death obsession than to do with any insecurities.

If you recall, there was a conversation between Holly and co-workers right at the start where she said she would love to be with Rob BECAUSE he was in a dark place due to the death of Nina.

Also, there were numerous allusions towards how 'dark' Holly was throughout the film. She was called a 'bit too nice' by the guy who dumped her near the start, which annoyed her, and when they went to the graveyard and Rob said 'You are so dark' to her she was really happy.

I think these scenes were added really to show that her entire motivation to be with Rob (and thus causing the appearance of Nina's undedad corpse) was entirely to do with this obsession, and she never really cared about Rob at all. It wasn't Rob she loved, it was the feeling of being in a sort of taboo or tainted relationship.

Once she realised this, there was no need for her to stay with Rob at all.

That makes a lot of sense bigdaddy.

Your explaination makes sense for the ending of the movie. What I don't really understand is why Nina's manifestation derides Holly for most if not all of the film. Even though Holly tries to embrace Nina's presence. You could say that Holly thought those things about herself, but if she felt strong enough about her feelings to bring Nina back from the dead, it's unlikely that she would feel that bad about herself.

Or maybe Nina really was just a C U Next Tuesday.
