The Biggest Reason why Spoils of Balony Was a Huge Bust

IFC marketed this show for several months - literally. It may have been longer. They didn't just market this show, they hyped it up with false trailers, claimed it was like the greatest new show of all time, increased their marketing to every commercial break, and then when it came time to see what it was about - it was a huge disappointment.

If this was just a show announced a week in advance to surprise and didn't get much marketing, it would be that "did you see that show Spoils of Babylon the other night? it is pretty funny" instead of:

"did you see that crap Spoils of Balony the other night? the one that was advertised for nearly half a year non-stop on IFC? the one that Will Ferrel claimed was his lifelong masterpiece? don't bother watching it"

The hype and hyperbole was part of the joke. They weren't actually saying that it was the greatest television event of all time. They were making fun of advertisements for the kinds of shows that 'Spoils' was parodying.

Also, you sure do start a lot of threads on a board for a show you don't like.
