You PROBABLY DEFINITELY missed this...

So nearer the end of the movie, the results for Salomina's (The Indian girl's) test goes as followed:

(A)lpha-Correct
(B)eta-Correct
(C)harlie- Correct
(D)elta-Incorrect
(E)cho- Incorrect
.
.

and so on

See now from questions D to H she got incorrect, but then I...

(I)ndia-correct

She then went on an incorrect streak up until L...

(L)ove-Correct

More of an incorrect streak, then finally...

(U)niverse-Correct

'(I) (L)ove (U)' -(L)ove came from Ian and Karen's modified version of Phonetic letters.

What could this mean?
Is this just coincidence?
Can Sofi only communicate through the subconscious actions of Salomina?
Sofi, Salomina... are there more 'souls' for that one set of eyes?
So many questions, so so many...

Thank you and Goodnight

Wow! Great attention to detail. good Job!

reply

It stopped making any sense at C. It's either Alpha, Beta, Gamma; or it's Alpha, Bravo, Charlie. But the test was a joke in so many ways.

reply

Well done! Hadnt paid attention to that.

reply

I think you're wrong, because then the 44% score result doesn't add up.

We clearly heard Ian's ratings 19 times (twice without a letter, after the L and before the U). The only way you get at a 44% result is to get 8 right out of 18 or to get 11 right out of 25.

So I'm assuming they just didn't show the lettres M to T in detail, of which she scored 4 out of 8.

A hidden message would've been nice, but then someone screwed up with the math :)

reply

Personally, *MY* math wento more like this: since Salomina saw three photos each time, then, if she were just randomly guessing which one to pick, then she would, on average, pick the correct one 33% of the time.

The difference between 44% and 33%? 11 percent!

Yet another case of 11.

reply

Now THAT was a great call! Hmm.. starting to think I should watch it a second time immediately..

reply

This is correct, she got 11/25.

You are awarded extra strawberries.

For the romantics out there, feel free to read into it whatever you like.

reply

To put it simply, bollocks.

reply

Thank you. I needed a good laugh today.

reply

haha thanks!

The world is full of people trying to find deeper meanings in random *beep*

reply

This isn't random, the file was created, and has a theme of meaningful coincidences. (unlike reality *burn*)

It's too bad she won't live. But then again, who does?

reply

Didn't notice the ILU part but I thought all the correct ones were going to spell out an anagram or something.

But the fact she got Love and Universe correct must have had some significance maybe? Why else would they put in their own version of the phonetic alphabet?

Especially earlier on in the movie when Sofi and Ian were on about knowing each other in past lifes and the whole atoms, the universe and "my atoms have always loved your atoms" pick up line.

reply

Why else would they put in their own version of the phonetic alphabet?

Yeah, they hit on this point quite a few times didn't they?

Also, if you remember, the one time B Marling went 'contrarian' and gave answers like 'G as in Gnome'. The whole point to using the phonetic alphabet is to give a word with the sound of the letter or a word that immediately puts you in mind of that letter- the point being to lessen confusion and misunderstanding.

Her using G as in Gnome is like a sign saying 'you have to pay attention and think about why this works'.

Brit Marling seems to like films that leave little questions like this in your mind. I like it too.

I might go back and watch it again soon and look at some of the earlier instances of the phonetic alphabet in the film and compare it to the end.

'It's a work of art and there's really no "right" interpretation...' RDM

reply

was it just me or did Ian NOT have a last photo set? he got to Yoga and asked Karen then how the score was. so I thought maybe the elevator at the end was the last "test" eventhough I don't know where the Z would fit in here.

reply

There was no Z, which I also found odd. I figured that Z would have been the photo of Sofi. It seems strange that it was instead Y, and not followed with Z. That portion was not cut, he simply ended the test after Y. I suppose this is where the factor of 11 comes into play again. 11 of 25 is 44%.

reply

Just to mention you, the picture of Sofi was shown to Salomina. See the movie again dear and Salomina pointed it correctly.

reply

Read the message again(dear),and you will see that itssosublime was right.

reply

*SPOILER* I have to agree. I was wondering what Z would be, but then he did the elevator test. That has to be Z. And it was all it took to convince him that she was his girlfriend reincarnated.

reply

THIS

reply

I don't think the elevater was a test, at least not a conscious one. They took the stairs to go up because he was trying to avoid that religious man who was waiting for the elevator too. It's a case of serendipity, but of course you can interpret it as the last and definite proof (Z).

reply

I think it they ended at Y because A to Y counts 25 tests. That´s a more logical number than 26. Like you would rather do 50 tests than lets say 51 or 49.

’’I'M A  ‘‘

reply

As explained above, the reason there were 25 is that 44% (the percent the girl got right) of 25 is 11, which is the common number throughout the film.

reply

Also the after credits scene, Hitler, Lincoln, Kennedy, Stalin, Lenin, Malcolm X, Marilyn Munroe, Elvis, Einstein, Nikola Tesla and others popped up on map as reborn

reply

Yes... yes sunnyu666 that's a fair point and a half

But

Judging by the complexity of the movie's themes/concepts, it's difficult to believe this was an accident. There's just no way that the inclusion of this is pure coincidence.

You see on one hand this 44% statistic from the 'questioning scene' disproves the reincarnation theory through the nature of facts and data analysis, but on the other hand, the scene was perfectly edited to state otherwise...

What were the director's intention?
What was this trying to be achieved?
Thoughts?

I think the final season of him walking through the door that they had discussed in bed was in relation to his faith / belief. I think the director is showing you there is no proof to you you the existence of 'god' but your own beliefs make it to be what you want it to be.

Do you feel from the movie that he main character believes in 'god' ? I certainly don't, however his belief has changed and maybe he understands that his evidence against will not over come the untestable fact that the girl was scared of lifts and that connection they had at the end was all that he needed.

The director clearly wants us to believe that re-incarnation is possible, if the data point are based upon iris tests within this film. However we certainly don't have any evidence at the moment and I did like the story about light with the worm, based upon the sense that they have would have no idea of the concept of light .... Until mans involvement to give it eyes, and therefore stepped into evolution as a grand designer.

Solid movie and very un-Hollywood, I wouldn't watch a romantic film normally but the science versus religion angle was done very here and has enough in it for taking the missus to the cinema and has enough in it to stimulate the mind.

No offense, but it to me it is quite possible that this is a 100% coincidence.
