Very dark and no porter

One of the moments of relief, when watching Macbeth on stage, is when The Porter comes on and does what Shakespeare meant him to do: make the audience laugh. He wasn't even in this. There was no humour - at all. I know it's not a comedy but that's no excuse. Some of the great speeches were delivered in voice over or whisper and it was too dark. The witches were awful. The director needs locking up. Please don't let this version put you off; it's a great play.
