Far superior to The Captains, well worth a watch.

In comparison to Shatner's other Trek documentary (I believe he's made more than the 2 but I haven't seen any others), it's like night and day.

"The Captains" lacks focus and Shatner's insistence of discussing death and legacy is a strange way to go with it. The editing is out-of-kilter and the only real pleasure to take from it is to see Shatner with the other captains - and even that is sometimes more awkward than enjoyable.

"Chaos On The Bridge" benefits from Shatner taking a back-seat to the actual story being told and while the runtime requires that a lot of the nitty-gritty details are skipped over (Gates McFadden's firing and rehiring happens in the space of about 2 minutes with little detail), there's still nuggets of new and interesting insight into TNG's birth through to Roddenberry's death. The editing is fast-paced and keeps you involved, and the animated recreations (really more like comic strip panels than animation) of events are engaging.

Maury Hurley comes off very badly despite Shatner throwing him a bone at one point who - despite taking credit for the Borg (and possibly this is genuine?) - seems to be the key reason why the first two seasons are terrible, and his exit marking the shift to the show finally blossoming doesn't look good for him.

As a long time fan but as someone who has never attended a convention or really spent a lot of time delving into the background of the show, this was very enjoyable. If you're an old convention attendee and have heard these stories a thousand times, perhaps you'll get less from it.
