Did Oswald have a speech impediment?

I'm guessing it was the actor's accent slipping in and out (he's Australian right?) but the sound came across as an impediment

Thanks. I couldn't recall seeing a clip where he had one.

If you listen to interviews with him (post arrest), Oswald does seem to have a slightly odd way of speaking. It's hard to describe but there's definitly something a little off. I think Gary Oldman did a much better job getting his voice down in JFK.

Oswald grew up in New Orleans and has a accent and speech pattern heavily influenced by Cajun's. It's not exactly a Cajun accent, but very close.

(Spoiler Alert)The Confederacy LOSES the Civil War!!!!

natives to New Orleans do not speak Cajun or have a Cajun accent. that's rural Louisiana. New Orleans natives have an accent that is very similar to a Brooklyn accent. there are articles linking this to original port cities, Catholic nuns, etc.

dudestein never said NOLA people speak Cajun or have Cajun accents...he said influenced...and NO they don't sound like people from Brooklyn...that's funny

I wondered what on earth was going on with his odd accent that didn't match his mother's so googled and it opened a while can of worms. Apparently he had something wrong with his ear and had a procedure done when he was 5 which resulted in hearing loss which in turn could explain some of why he sounded a bit different. His travelling was also mentioned as a possible reason - picking up on accents etc. Another reason put forth was that when he came back from Russia it wasn't him but a Russian Cold War agent. Can of worms as I said.

Here are two interviews by the real Lee Harvey Oswald: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_mg5-KCjRU

Gary Oldman by the way portrayed him speaking in the same style in the 1991 movie JFK.

We're we watching the same thing??? I thought his accent was clearly Russian. Maybe he was speaking so much Russian that it rubbed off on his American voice - not sure. All I know is I have several Russian-American friends and they all have accents just like this depiction of Lee Harvey Oswald.
