Can a native Spanish speaker understand this movie with Spanish alone?

I'd like to take a couple of my relatives to go see this movie, but Since they can only speak Spanish, I'm not sure if they will get it or be lost.

Thanks!

The version I saw was Spanish and German, with some English. Whatever of the three languages was being spoken, the other two languages were subtitled. More than half of the movie was in Spanish, however. I read online that there was an English version. Since the theatre can turn subtitles on/off digital versions of films they screen, you should just call ahead and ask if they will have Spanish subtitles for the English and German sections as I saw it.

Im a native Spanish and only speak spanish and english but not german; and let me tell you that the real magic of the movie is to watch it without subtitles. and I mean any (spanish, english, german)... This gives you the experience that Ramon or Ruth got on trying to understand each other without any knowledge of their language.

And as your question was if any native spanish speaker understand the movie; my answer is YES, and not only the spanish, also the english only and german only speakers.

This movie is great and really beautiful...

You can probably follow most of the movie but you will be lost when German is spoken as you must read the English subtitles for that.

I do believe the main point of the movie is not so much the verbal communication Ramon and the elderly Germans have as neither can understand a word of what the other is saying, but more about how good actions and good deeds transcend language. I believe your family will still enjoy the movie with Spanish only, but will probably wonder what the Germans are saying throughout the movie if they can't read the English subtitles.
