shareIt was bad. But it doesn’t matter how good it is, no one should ever make movies this way, with actors using accents to represent speaking in another language. Either have them speak Russian and use subtitles, or just have them use their regular accents.
shareThank God. I thought I was the only one who thought that way. It ruins the whole movie. If they're Russian, they should speak Russian. I always remember that movie Tom Cruise was Hitler's assassin "Valkyrie". It became stupid with all the English being spoken amongst german soldiers.

If the movie is mainly made for English audiences, it needs to be in English.
If Hong Kong wants to make a movie about Billy the Kid for Chinese audiences, it should be made for them in Chinese.

In my opinion if the movies were made for an american audience only, then I believe they could be released entirely in English. But I don't think that's the case. For instance, the British movie industry is made for the brits and the english speaking audiences across the globe. The Spanish movie industry is made for the spanish and whoever speaks spanish. If you don't, you see it with english subtitles like I do.
Now, I believe that the american movie industry is more of a global thing. It's not for the american people only. It's for everyone. That may vary on the genre, of course.
My point is: if you have a plot where americans interact in another country with people who speak a different language, that should be depicted as real life. When it's not english, then it's not english. It's more realistic.
That language shift is important to determine that the environment has changed. You were following just fine when that guy was at the Heathrow airport. Once he landed in Moscow, you should feel what he feels. Sometimes it's a little uncomfortable - and so is life. I don't mind reading subtitles. I pay the price to explore other cultures. Last month I binge-watched an Icelandic series on Netflix. And it was awesome. (called Trapped).

That's a very good question.
When you have a theme where there's no interaction with english speaking people, then you can create a ficticious environment where that language is replaced by english, making it easier to produce and to watch.
I think it's more like a choice they made similar to the Lord of the Rings, for example. What country is that? I know it's shot in New Zealand. But where are they from? It's not the world we live in. When it's fantasy, having no interaction with other known countries of our planet, then it should be English by default.
Gladiator, in my opinion, would fit in this category. There's my answer to your question. Cheers! :)

shareI don’t buy it in the trailers, but i think familiarity with JLaw is a big reason why. Either way, she looks suitable.
