Do the parents know their child is British?

I have not seen the movie--only the trailer--but the little girl that plays their daughter has a full on English (or maybe Australian?) accent, while the parents clearly don't. Was the little girl adopted by the parents right before they came to South America, or did the filmmakers just not care if the accents matched?

The father explains that after they got married they moved to London and that's where the daughter was born and raised before coming to Columbia.

Don't children usually take after the parents accent more? They r with r with them most of the time...

reply

Not necessarily. I have a niece who has a full-blown American accent (We're all Australian) simply because of all the US TV shows she watched growing up.

I know this is an older post but actually I've known many children of immigrants living in america and almost all of them had american accents even though their parents still spoke with the accent of their native countries. The exception of course, being if they lived in communities of others with the same background.

i literally just asked myself that question..

This bugged me too. Haha! I was like.. American accent parents and a little child with a British accent. It couldn't be any less authentic.

So just because my grandparents were born in Italy my American mother should have an Italian accent? Yes, she spoke some Italian to them as a child but she did go to school all day and they wanted her to use English as her primary language.

Not sure why they didn't stay in Italy. I would love to live there.

Why do people ask questions like this before seeing the film which is where the question will most likely be answered?
