Note on Tracy's story

I was curious if anyone might have come to the same conclusion as I did about a line early on in the film (I'm going on memory, but I think I remember this part correctly).

When Tracy receives the note about her story being fake in the middle (I believe it was not the Mistress America tale), was that supposed to foreshadow the part where Tracy goes to Connecticut to see her former friend (boyfriend?) Dylan? That sort of did come off as a bit too surreal and unrealistic, and different in tone than the rest of the film. It was still good, and it possessed an entertaining rhythm, but it seemed like its own scene, unique when compared to the other parts of the picture.
