Could the ending be smarter than we think?

I really enjoyed this movie. It wasn't one of Woody's best, but it certainly wasn't one of his worst -- until the ending. So abrupt, it felt rushed and cheap. But then I thought about it more, and maybe the ending is meant to show the audience how we are all a little like Stanley. We can't accept happiness. We can't accept the happy ending, and ironically would have been happier with a more realistic, and more pessimistic ending. Thoughts?

fully underwhelmed with the ending, but indeed, the writer/director failed to give stanley redeeming qualities, so the problem was there throughout.

but yes, you're quite right. a little self-delusion could well bring about a more cheerful view of the world. climate change will not cause your children and grandchildren lung cancer or worse and you had NOTHING to do with it, nor most of your generation. put those thoughts aside, now, and SMELL THE ROSES!
