I really loved this movie. I don't understand why people are so actively angry about it. The script was clever and the acting was great.

Because Zach Braff lied to his fans, claiming that he did not have his own money to make this movie, despite having a net worth of $20,000,000 at the time.

So he used kickstarter (a source for those without his big bankroll or connections) to get other people to pay for the movie.

The result did not work well for him.

I also loved this movie.
Don't know anything about Zac that people were talking about. Also looked like this was the first movie of his that I watched.

I don't understand why people are so actively angry about it.

Because he lied about not having money to get it made.

He wanted to have it funded without having to pay back investors. That's why people dislike him for making this movie.

I get why he couldn't get this funded the normal way (when you have money AND connections).
