I kind of hate Jay Leno after watching this

And everyone else who made fun of her when she was in trouble...

reply

I kinda agree with you while watching this it made me sick to see everyone making jokes at someone's expense who obviously had a problem. Not just Leno, all of them. But at the same time, I remember that time and while she was alive it seemed like an easy go-to topic for a joke for people. It's sad but maybe it'll prevent one person from making the jokes. I doubt it but maybe.....

It still goes on today... with tons of celebrities. The media see them on a downward spiral, whether due to drugs, alcohol or mental health issues, and they joke about it and sensationalize it.

But the larger problem is society. Why are trash magazines like The Enquirer and the Star still in publication? How did the TMZ website become so popular that it spun off into a TV show that people actually watch?

If society wasn't so bloody fascinated in celebrity to such a narcissistic degree such that their voyeurism trumps respecting a human being's privacy during a difficult time, then the paparazzi wouldn't exist.

It's hideous.

Her mother, her father, her husband... useless. they literally loved her to death. Her record company saw her downward spiral, yet still had her adhere to her contract and keep her concert dates and club bookings. Good grief, what about seeing the fact that she's a human being first? It's as if all the people in her life were just like those IMDB trolls. She needed better people in her life. Such a waste of talent and human life.

There was always someone making a joke about Amy's addiction, Joan Rivers made some joke about Amy

What is kind of fascinating about this movie is that it moves you from the role of 'anonymous internet critic' that many of us are into someone caught up and really involved in Amy and her story. If I had seen and heard that Jay Leno joke a few years ago, I honestly might have laughed. While becoming emotionally engrossed in Amy's story and seeing the same joke, I found it repulsive.

After seeing the movie, you really do come away with more sympathy for what these highly-visible and scrutinized performers must experience in private. I'm certainly not excusing Amy's behavior or saying she was blameless for her demise. But maybe, just maybe, we'll all be a little less snarky after seeing this amazing film.

This, exactly this. I remember when I heard the news she had died, and I remember thinking like "Oh pfffssh... another stupid celebrity who can't control their liquor and drug habits." After seeing the documentary, I feel totally miserable for her, and at the same time I hate her father, her ex-husband and the media people like Jay Leno and Graham Norton. The papparazzi were bad too, but they are always bad in England. I feel like if her dad wasn't such a desctructive idiot, Amy Winehouse might still be alive.

I LOVE Graham Norton but it wasn't pleasant to see him call her a mad person.

We all make fun of other's people misfortune. Think of how many times you've laughed when someone spills something on their shirt, or trips and falls. We never stop for a second to think and It is low hanging fruit and it's easy cannon fodder for comedians to poke fun at other people's misfortunes. Never do we stop to think about them still being a human being, our first instinct is to laugh.

Are you out there trying to help people on similar paths like Johnny Manziel or Lindsey Lohan or do you laugh at them? They are in much similar positions to to Amy at that point in time. Don't act like Amy is any more special, they are all troubled people in the spotlight with major problems.

Yikes. Mixed metaphors!

No one is acting like Amy was any more "special" than other troubled celebs in the spotlight. Not sure where you plucked that from.

It was interesting. It was pretty horrible, but I couldn't help but wonder, if I had seen that when it happened, would I have just laughed? And if she was still alive, would it seem so awful? I don't know.

What about George Lopez? When announcing her Grammy nomination, he made some lame joke about her being a "drunkass". What should have been a nice moment celebrating her achievement was totally deflated by this talentless "comedian". Cut to a few years later and Lopez is making headlines for passing out drunk in a casino in Canada. What a hypocrite! For this and many other reasons Lopez is a total scumbag.

I was reminded of watching Craig Ferguson one night when some celebrity (can't remember who) went into rehab, and Ferguson got up in front of everyone and began talking about this celebrity...

And stated that he WOULD NOT joke about her drug addiction or alcohol or whatever it was, that he had come out of that life and knew how hard it was, and wished her luck with getting well. He told the audience that he would continue his comedic monologue just like normal after the commercial break, but that he would not touch this celebrity out of respect for her struggle.

I'll admit that I've laughed at comedians making these jokes before, but it comes as a real slap in the face when someone makes a stand that they WON'T make fun of these people, and does it in a very respectful way.

I did it. I saved us all. I'm Chunk Iron Chest and I won!

I remember that as well. It was Britney Spears. It may have been right after she shaved her head.

Celebrities are still people. They still have their own struggles. If a celebrity acts like a jerk or does something silly, by all means...go for them. But drug addiction and illness aren't things to be made fun of.

Comedians should put themselves in their shoes first.

The thing is at the time everybody made fun of Amy. She was a easy target. She was everybody's laughing stock.
I think I even laughed at some of the jokes, hate to admit it. It was easily earned laughs.
