Didn't she die of...

Didn't she die of alcohol withdrawal, not poisoning? I thought I read that somewhere but maybe I'm wrong. Just curious

reply

No, the coroner's verdict was "accidental alcohol poisoning". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amy_Winehouse#Death

She was weak, if she wasn't bulimic and anorexic, she would be alive for bit more... Maybe it was suicide, maybe not... No one can know that

reply

I think that it may have been a combination of a lot of things that contributed to her death, it's such a shame as she was a hugely talented young woman... she seemed like a nice person too.

reply

" No one can know that " ... Yup!

I believe she had had a period of abstinence, trying to get better & then because her body had lost it's tolerance to alcohol, when she did drink this time, it was too much for her body to cope with. It happens quite a lot with people who've had drink or drug addictions. They get clean, then drink or take drugs on a one off or 'fall off the wagon' & either their body cannot cope with the intake of it, or the person takes/drinks a similar large amount to what they use to, not realising their body doesn't have the built up tolerance it did once have when they were using/drinking regularly or heavily.

lulahv - i've also read numerous times that this was the case. she was something like 4x over the legal limit at the time of her death (can't remember exactly) which may be tolerable for active alcoholics, but not necessarily those who are moderate drinkers, or those who relapse after a period of sobriety.

>she was something like 4x over the legal limit at the time of her death

I remember the female doctor's voice saying 45x, which astounded me, but now you mention it, it makes more sense that she would have said "four to five" which in a British accent sounds very similar!

reply

I too thought the doctor had said forty five times and had wondered how this was even possible because it would be about sixty pints of beer I think. It is not till you wrote that the doctor probably said four to five that I realised you must be right. Thanks, you've resolved a mystery.

reply

You are absolutely right. Many, many times people with addictions are able to go clean and sober for periods of time but then when they relapse, they assume that their tolerance to whatever substance they're addicted to is still the same. Unfortunately this is when they overdose because their body can no longer handle the abuse and strain of the substance. When you mix in anorexia or bulemia and maybe dehydration and general fatigue the body is going to give out. It's very, very sad.

reply

Whatever the media of wikipedia, wants to make us believe, we know what she and some other young celebrities died of.

Kinda had similar feelings. I didn't follow her career or music at all, but makes you wonder. Maybe she wouldn't play the game anymore and submit.

reply

You can't be serious. Yes, I'm sure Amy 'knew things', and Big Government wanted her silenced.

Or, she couldn't cope with a sad childhood and the rise to fame, and drank and did drugs to cope.

reply

There is no such thing as alcohol withdrawal that causes death.

There are so many ignorant posts and threads (mostly from people that dont know Amys story) that I ignore, but you bpollen should do some research before you spout nonsense to people. Alcohol is the only drug that can cause death by quitting cold turkey, or because of withdraws. Hence why professional detox is so important.

reply

Actually, Benzos can also cause death from withdrawal. As with alcohol, they both can cause people to go into a very bad seizure which can kill them.

reply

You don't know what you are talking about. The body becomes dependent and sudden withdrawal can cause seizure, which if bad enough can be fatal.

She did not die of withdrawal; her blood alcohol was shown to be very high, which combined with her medical history and lifestyle caused her death.

reply

You are SO very wrong. Do some research.

reply

But not curious enough to do your own research.

Perhaps the OP just wants to reach out for some sense of community.

Please do some research on alcohol withdrawal. Alcohol, along with benzodiazepines, can be fatal when you withdrawal without medical assistance. Heightened anxiety leads to hallucination which lead to Delirium Tremens which lead to seizures and can lead to death.

reply

Yep. Very true. Dt. seizures. No you can't die( sarcasm). You can have a seizure in as little as a few hours.

reply

How transparent I am. Let's just talk, me and you.

What's up?
