awww c'mon! These were just boys being knuckleheads!

I don't care at what age these kids committed these crimes, I wouldn't want any of them living next door to me, working with me, making friends with anyone I know. These were brutal murders, and these twisted murderers need to be away from the rest of us for life.

Sean is proof that you should not just write off someone, especially someone so young, even if they have committed horrible crimes. Nobody is saying this is "boys will be boys", nobody is saying that they should not have to serve serious time, nobody is saying that it is easy to rehabilitate them...nobody is saying any of those things. This documentary is simply raising questions: Can we make a blanket statement that every person who commits murder should be locked away for life? Shouldn't we consider circumstances, particularly age since it is absolutely factual that the brain is not fully developed until late teens/early 20s and the specific parts that are not developed are those involved in impulse control and understanding consequences?

I cannot look at every single one of these young men and say "No matter what you do, no matter how far your progress, you will never even have the possibility of release".

And Brian is a very sweet boy!

You mean Torey, Brian's friend. Brian is the one who had a stutter and cuts himself because of remorse. Torey is the one whose mommy loves him because he's soooooooooo innocent and "kind." In fact (she says), he's every bit as kind as he was the day he went into prison! (probably the only true statement she made during that whole interview, ironically. He's absolutely just as "kind" as he was when he murdered his teenaged friend. Not kind AT ALL.)

Ugh that was messed up. I don't know if his parents actually believe that or just want evidence for a trial they're hoping for. They seemed immature just pointing fingers at someone else .. sorry video evidence puts blame on both.
I think he felt awkward .. and I believe interview would have gone differently without them there. "Like must be even harder since you're so innocent" looks around "uh, yeah".
Wish fooling my parents as a teenager would have been so easy!

reply

Totally agree. I wonder if his parents insisted on being there. His mom kept interrupting to explain what a good, innocent boy he was. He knows he's guilty and I think if his parents weren't hovering we would have heard a very different story.

reply

Yeah, it seemed to me the parents wanted to be there during any interview in case he might have said something incriminating. They were watching him like hawks.
