Ironically, should NOT have been written by the game's writer.

First and for most, I liked the movie. It was something that I've been wanting since first played it back in 04. With that said, this movie had no depth whatsoever, and I believe it's because the writer has been with it for too long. He was telling the story as if everyone already knew it. This isn't a fairy tale!

I was able to follow along because I knew the story - I've had 12 years experience with the franchise. I saw it with my friend who hadn't, and she didn't care for it too much. I shouldn't of had to spend an hour explaining everything. (Was there a reason why the bit about why the Blarg needed a new planet wasn't in the movie - it would've added what - 30 seconds?)

Sure, the game is for fans, but why? Why was it only for fans when we're just gonna play the game and got a much deeper experience anyway? I thought the movie was to introduce Ratchet and Clank to the world?

Sorry to say, but they could've lifted the original 2002 story word for word and movie-goers would have had a more complete experience.

At least they didn't loose too much money. The movie is so tied in with the game, ticket sales are probably pure profit.

Didn't realize it was the same writer. It definitely had the feel of being somebody's first screenplay. i really enjoyed the film, but it could have definitely been better had they brought in a more experienced screenwriter to pen the script.

"Groovy." - Evil Dead 2

TJ Fixman wrote for the games but it wasn't his screenplay actually.

Yes, he did write a screenplay for the movie, but the guys at rainmaker threw it out and Kevin Munroe rewrote it. That's why he has a writing credit.

It's also probably why the movie is so tame. I mean, TJ was the one that had Ratchet die in A Crack in Time.

Because Mars Needs Moms was soooo wonderful.
Goodness, I knew Rainmaker should have been a red flag.

Did they work on MNM?

Sorry, totally got that one wrong. - was basing that from what I read a while back.

But they did make Escape from Planet earth. They mostly make Straight to DVD Barbie movies.

Just watched it last night, and although my wife and I really enjoyed it, I completely agree with you. We've played through all the games multiple times since the first one came out in '04, so we were really familiar with the story. As such, we got all the jokes, and enjoyed seeing the characters on screen.

But, I kept thinking the whole time how lean it was. If I had never played the games, I think I would have felt a little lost as to what Drek's motives were, and why Nefarious was trying to overthrow him. It really could have done with about 10 more minutes of running time and really fleshed out what was going on and why.

I'm watching it for the first time as I write this... It feels like a series of video game cut scenes stitched together rather than the flow of a movie script.

The pacing feels all wrong...
