Webster was not very attractive....

Webster pics of him in his later years show he was fat and balding and unattractive. I assume he was more attractive when he was younger, but even so, no way he could ever have been considered a good looking man. Why did all those women agree to date or marry him? That boggles the mind! Were they just desperate and lonely? Couldn't do any better than him? Or what? It's not like he had a really good profession or had money. I don't see anthing that is especially appealing about him in any way. That just boggles my mind.

I think he is pretty average looking as an older man. A little heavier than a young guy would be, but not overly fat looking, and still had most of his hair. If you look a little further, there are pics of him when he is younger, and in the photo of him with his first wife, he is rather good-looking, I think. Below is a link to a photo of him with his second wife, Felicity. I didn't take the time to get a link to the photo to the first wife, but he looks much the same. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/8524135/Malcolm-Webster-killed-first-wife-and-poisoned-second-wife.html

According to his second wife Felicity, Webster had immense charm, charisma and an attractive personality which he would tailor to the individual needs of people he met. The film did not capture this at all, Webster gave an impression of a sulky, petulant and difficult immature man, who made one wonder what anyone ever saw in him.

I found a definition of sociopath in Psychology Today which, according to the film anyway, Malcolm Webster appears to be:

https://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/201305/how-spot-sociopath

The first qualification is "superficial charm and good intelligence"

My mom also gave me an insightful (and necessary, I think for all single women) book some years ago that I would call a survival manual - "The Sociopath Next Door" by Martha Stout.

While watching the film I was thinking of that book and how Webster was the most alarming type of sociopath. He wasn't legally insane because he knew the difference between right and wrong. Webster just didn't care and "knew" the rules didn't apply to him.

Psychopaths are incredibly persuasive and know how to exploit vulnerability.
