S04E05 Logistics Question

So in this episode we see Rick give Jerry special shoes that enable him to alter the laws of gravity.

In the scene where Jerry is seen floating through the sky, he suddenly sees an airplane, then takes off his remaining gravity-altering shoe and somehow flies up towards the belly of the plane.

Am I misunderstanding something? How would removing the shoe enable Jerry to propel upwards into the sky, instead of downwards?

Is this scene meant to be ridiculous and mess with the audience?
