The original didn't quite click for me. I found 2 a little funnier and livelier.
A thing I noticed was the fairly casual way Emily delivered the f word in one scene. I wonder if it was an ad lib that they left in? Normally, a PG-13 movie makes a big deal out of its one f word.
Funny! I think I like the first one slightly better than this but not by much. I Find myself wishing the Treblemakers weren't demasculated quite so much in this.

The story was easier to follow and less rushed in the first movie. There are so many scenes in 2 that seemed like they were cut to allow screen time for the rest of the story.
That said, the music is more based on a capella than just singing
Yes, I agree. Pitch Perfect 2 was funnier and more entertaining.
shareI don't quite get the immense popularity of either of these films, but I admit to having more laughs from the second one. I saw finally saw these movies after hearing people rave about the music and comedy.
The critics say the second one is too cartoony and the first one felt more real. I can see that. But the first one was also kind of dull. There's a certain comedic savagery on display in PP2 that I like more, where they constantly make fun of the genre. I even found Rebel Wilson's character much funnier here (not every moment was a home run, but she kept me awake).
The meta joke machine became self-aware in Pitch Perfect 2.
