Isn't it odd?

Isn't it odd how royals in non-existent monarchies have British accents?
Why do people go for these "uplifting, inspirational" movies that have as much substance as a can of frosting?

reply

Because some of us can look past things like that and enjoy the movie.

Yeah but he is supposed to be from a French monarch.

if he did speak with a French accent though, would we have been able to understand him...

when I used to watch the original nikita...I found it at times difficult to understand roy depuis, and I was used to his accent...

and is a lot of the cast, other then jane Seymour british......maybe that's it...if they are british, then that's the way they'll speak.....

I've noticed that, too. Even in films like Les Miserables!

One of the things I noticed in this film is that the set dressers apparently don't know the difference between eel and octopus. The first dinner at the castle is supposed to be jellied eels (a common European dish), but the plate shows a huge octopus tentacle. What?

I have had octopus, but never eel...

and if you watch Australian stuff, they're always talking about getting eel too....so it's not just a british thing....

but maybe they didn't have access to eels, if it was filmed in Romania...just octopus....

Since it was filmed in Romania, they should have served cabbage rolls instead.😉

There are non-Brits out there who speak with a British accent. Assume they're all speaking English for the benefit of the American then it's quite likely that they learned British English rather than American English.

The rest though?

It's supposed to be a monarchy in France and yet everything about it is British. Queen Isabella even points out an Englishman actually "discovered" electricity before Ben Franklin. All the nobles have titles which are British with Britsh pronunciations. Exeter, Devon and Cantebury are all in Britain.

The protocol was beyond messed-up and that over long bit with Leo and the heroine trying to make the guards laugh was tired and cliched.

reply

Can't anyone enjoy a movie for the movie's sake? I thought them trying to get the guards to laugh or smile was quite funny and not tiring at all. Yea I've seen it before; it was on I Love Lucy. It was funny then too.

reply

Because mmm... frosting.

You really can't expect the women who watch this crap to have any real thoughts based in reason ability or sense of reality.

reply

Cause American movie directors are in love with the British accent. The British accent is considered intelligent and the only popular and franchised monarchs in the world is the British Royal Family. This is also supposed to be an inspired spin on the William and Kate Middleton story. A prince in love with a commoner.

reply

They all go to English boarding schools.
