How did he get out of prison so fast?

He must have been charged with countless armed robberies but appeared to serve only about 2 years before being released. Also I thought there was a 3 strike rule over there where you get life if you’re charged with the same offence 3 times?

The 3 strikes rule didn't start until 1994, and the movie took place in 1981.

But still surely he’d have been given 20 years+ for all those robberies?

I made a couple of assumptions:

1. They only charged him with the one where "somebody talked." Possibly the Danny Glover character, as he was waiting at Forest's home. They had no proof for the others.

2. He could afford a great attorney.

3. They went easier on him due to age.

4. Maybe HE talked about something... another person involved, or the location of the money to make partial restitution.

5. Poetic license. ("licence" if you're in the UK)

6. At least 5 years had passed.

I was wondering the same thing. Didn't they count like 93 robberies??
