Why is Lillard not in this?

And don't tell me the script didn't warrant his return. A scheduling conflict wouldn't sound believable either.

Because it's not a movie about Steve-O. Because Merendino doesn't make movies just to rehash all of the old characters. Because there might be another script laying around that follows the Steve-O route. Because Lillard would be expensive as hell now. Because Merendino isn't making a movie that fits your demands. Because Merendino isn't making a sequel that is like the crap sequels Hollywood keeps churning out(Same cast, same jokes, new hairstyles).

Pick any of these. It's a sequel that could pretty much stand on its own. It's got a large chunk of the original cast, but not so many that it's just a rehash of the first movie, and it's got new characters that you enjoy just as much.

Are you serious? You talk as if you know "Merendino" on a personal level. You all act like he's some sort of punk director God. Let's get real okay, SLC Punk (the first one) is no Godfather nor Merendino Oliver Stone. And as far as punk movies go Trainspotting was much, MUCH better. SLC Punk was entertaining and I enjoyed it enough to buy it on DVD but get real..it's not Academy Award material. The reason Lillard isn't in the new one is because Merendino couldn't get him to do a sequel. I've followed the sequel since it was merely a possibility in 2012 and back then it was clear that Merendino WANTED a sequel centered on Stevo's character and factually had the screenplay for it done. In the beginning their was a possibility that Lillard would reprise his role but alas that possibility vanished quickly as Lillard declined the role. So Merendino had or made another script centered on Bob, Trish and their love child Ross with as many of the supporting actors from the original he could get. So you saying he didn't make the sequel to rehash old characters is laughable because that is exactly what he did and wanted to do. The new characters wouldn't even be in existence if Lillard had signed on. I haven't watched it yet but am FB friends with a few people who have that are really, really disappointed. They paid money to the IndieGoGo campaign and have been supporting and following this remake since the very beginning. They said the character of Ross was boring and unrelatable. They said the characters Shelly and Trish were ridiculously overdramatic. They hated the new John the Mod and the storyline between Trish and Sean? Don't get me started on that. The only characters they liked were Crash and Penny. And they didn't really care for the Bob narrative either. They were even more upset that Merendino changed the style they loved so much. There was little character interaction the way Stevo interacted with all the smaller characters..yea that is pretty much nonexistent which is the best part of SLC Punk! IMHO. And the climax of Ross jumping on stage was hilarious (in a bad way) and they said the concert scene was far from awesome. They were also pretty disappointed that there was a false promise of 2 surprise cameos that apparently never made it. Also you say Merendino doesn't make a movie based on what his fan wants and I agree with you. You'd think since the fans helped fund the movie that he'd try to please them but I don't think he did. Now...Bring on the Merendino minions to internet assault me for being an individual and having an opinion different from theirs. Heaven forbid someone dislike the movie lol

Actually, I followed him and his updates on the movie for almost two years now. I also attended the premiere, where he spoke about the movie, making it, who the characters were to him, and why he made it. No, I don't know him on any "personal level", I just pay attention when people talk about something they have a great deal of heart invested in.

Good for you and I also followed the making of SLC Punk 2 for a few years which is exactly why I know this movie was made to rehash old characters.. Merendino WANTED Lillard and Segel and at one point it was openly discussed. Apparently Merendink approached Lillard (or Lillards ppl) to find out if he'd do the sequal but he apparently couldn't. Lillard even took to Twitter to explain to fans why he couldn't do the movie. And I'm just assuming that he did the same for Segel however Segel didn't even acknowledge his decision publicly the way Lillard did. So on top of TRYING AND FAILING to get Stevo and Mike and with Bob, Trish, John the Mod, Sean and Eddie being in the film it becomes clear that yes Merendino definitely made this film to expressly rehash old characters. So I ask you to explain exactly why you came to the conclusion that 'Merendino doesn't make films just to rehash old characters' I'm just guessing here when I say that I don't think you can.
And I also want to state that since Merendino crowd-funded to help create his movie (particularly the overrated concert scene) he kind of was making a movie to fit his fans demands. The making of this movie was reliant on those loyal fans so if Merendino alienated them this movie would go nowhere fast.
Last but not least I just wanted to say how effing annoyed I am that they advertised that there would be two surprise cameos but where are these cameos I ask. Thus movie was a devastating let down and I'm bummed..

Hey Ryan Painter. You seem pretty passionate about a movie you say you never watched. LOLOLOL

This sequel was so dull and unimaginative, I would of preferred a rehash of the first. Saying Merendino has another script with Stevo is saying Merendino couldn't get the funds to the movie he originally wanted to make. So he made this generic road trip sequel instead.

Yeah, I really agree with you. Sure, it was fun to see a couple members from the old gang again, but what they've become wasn't interesting and they had, what, four quick scenes? Eddie was just kind of *there,* John becoming a *death metal* guy who just growls a lot... Even Bob from *beyond the grave* was underused and just sort of stops narrating half way through the film. (I also hated that they literally gave away the ending IN the first teaser trailer.)

The new characters weren't any better. (And I get that people will complain "don't compare it to the original, just watch it for a film itself!" But that's kind of difficult when the first one was so good and this was like an amateurish fanfilm.) Ross just spends most of the movie crying like a little emo kid. I didn't find it even in the least bit accidentally enjoyable.

I'm actually glad Lillard wasn't in this. I honestly fear what Merendino would have done to completely tarnish his character. And hey, I also get that it's inspired or loosely based on true events and actual people Merendino knew... Maybe this IS what became of the real people. But it was presented in such a boring way. I much more would prefer the apparent SLC documentary that's been in the works for a couple years now.

You are totally on point with how I felt..didn't it bother you that they claimed there would be 2 surprise cameos that never even made it to the film? I'm surprised more fans aren't pissed about the many false promises that were made during the making if it. Anyway I read many of your comments on the different message boards and agree with them..You and I think alike :)

It just wasn't a film for my generation, we have the original SLC punk. Funny enough, my ex-girlfriend (younger than I am) loved this and prefers it to the original. I do not feel any shame for dumping her Lol.

And that's cool too.

Hey, maybe "John The Mod" & "Sean The Beggar" WERE the '2 surprise cameos,' ever think o' that?!
