Run The Tide to Netflix?

Only a random thought but I would love it. What do you think?

They've started now to invest in indies with lower budget.

I'm hoping it will get some praise on the festival circuit and then a limited release before going to Netflix. But maybe that's the traditionalist in me.

reply

Netflix would be no obstacle for that. They also have cinemas under contract.
Fukunaga's Beast of no Nation with Elba for example premiers on Netflix and in selected theatres the same day. And this movie will run on several festivals.
It's only a matter of time until some of their movies will win the really big prizes.

That sounds good but I get the impression that Netflix doesn't enjoy the friendliest relation ship with cinemas, at least not in the US. So if the film is well received, attempts to widen it's release to more screens might be hampered. Especially if it's made available to view on Netflix at the same time. Will be interesting to see how Netflix's relationship with cinemas evolves over time.

reply

It depends, what kind of movie it is.
No way the theatres would accept a multiplatform release for high budget
productions like R6 or this new deal with Brad Pitt who could open nationwide.
It's another thing when it comes to movies in limited release. Widenings from limited to nationwide are the exeption not the rule.
We can read daily how many famous moviemakers jump on this waggon to get a worldwide release on Netflix and other streamers at the same day. And we're speaking about high quality arthouse movies. They all see this as a big chance. And this developement happens much faster than anyone had thought 2 or 3 years ago.
This popular contemptuous phrase "Straight to Netlix" becomes more and more a seal of approval.

As much as I would love Run The Tide to go from limited to wide, I was thinking more likely it would be hampered going from limited to slightly less limited. Don't get me wrong I think Netflix is an excellent partner for indie film makers, especially as they are so poorly supported by multiplexes. But I still like the idea of seeing films on the big screen and I think it will take time for Netflix's relationship with cinemas to settle down before I feel confident they can reach a decent number of screens. Happy to be proved wrong sooner rather than later.

reply

As long as I get to watch it on the big screen then sure.

Something needs to happen soon. The movie seems too good to sit much longer.

Wish his fans would start a petition to get this on Netflix. Don't understand the lack of support for his projects. He's been amazing with his after Twilight characters. Andy was a tool. Cam a parkour gawd, Lil Pete, a slow paced sweetheart and Dale a sexy, spacey delight. No doubt the character of Reymund is just as interesting.

reply

Maybe the movie isn't any good which is why no distributor sees it as a good investment?

reply

On cue as always. I hope it is released in some form and fans can judge for themselves. Noone wanted Ben Affleck as Batman, but...

reply

It wont be released if it doesn't pick up distribution.

reply

Waiting for Netflix to pick this up. Taylor is on Instagram now. Maybe he'll post about being on set again. Then fans cans ask what they can do to help.

reply

Going to see if fans want to participate in getting this on Netflix.

reply

I hear the film will go to Netflix soon too. Yeah.
