Yes, the animation doesn't look particularly special and yes the story is probably going to be linear. But I personally feel a protagonist like this would be a great movie-going memory for kids, as well as adults. I'm personally looking forward to a Madagascar/Kubo/Toy Story style of movie and will be seeing this in theatres. I say best best of luck with box office sales
shareUnlike "Kubo", there's no central conflict and no real sense that the character is anything more than the typical bored youth looking for modern excitement, where rock music becomes the answer to life. It's just a typical 'follow your dreams' rock music trope with talking animals instead of a boy band or Jem.
This sort of thing was boring the first time I saw it. The generic plotline has not improved with age.
I just found out about it. If it comes to a theater near me I'll try to see it, mainly because Lewis Black is in it and I like his comedic style. I hope the U.S. version is better than the Chinese one. It sounds like they practically butchered it.
